Busting Down Breast Cancer
Tulsa (March 21st, 2019) – Komen Tulsa and Freedom Homes of Tulsa worked together to bust down breast cancer with a special pre-dawn demolition today. Several media outlets were on hand to document the event, which was meant to increase breast cancer awareness and the services of Komen Tulsa.
“My wife as recently diagnosed with breast cancer, so we wanted to do something to raise awareness,” said Freedom Homes General Manager William Long. “She had always done her mammograms but discovered a lump during a self-breast exam. We were a little distressed, so I reached out to Susan G Komen and they provided some counsel to me as a spouse.”
Freedom Homes recently moved from an old office building to a new location at the same busy traffic circle near Admiral and Mingo in Tulsa. Long decided to paint his old office building pink in support of Komen Tulsa.
“We are always grateful for partners in the community who raise awareness for breast cancer,” said Komen Tulsa CEO Abbi Lee. “There is always a need for that, and we are so appreciative of Freedom Homes for what they’re doing to bring awareness to this issue today.”
Construction crews started showing up at the pink building at 7:00 AM and the demolition began right at 7:30. By 8:00, all that remained was a pile of pink rubble.
“You never expect something like this to happen in your life,” said Long. “When you have resources like the ones provided by Susan G Komen, it’s a tremendous blessing.”
